Varnish is a web application accelerator platform, which caches data for quicker access. It is sometimes called an HTTP reverse proxy too and it works between a web server and an Internet browser. When a website visitor opens a given web page, the content is requested by the browser, and then the web server handles this request and delivers the requested info. If Varnish is activated for a certain website, it will cache the pages on the first request and in case the user accesses a cached page for a second time, the content will be delivered by the accelerator platform and not by the server. The accelerated speed is an end result of the substantially faster response speed that Varnish offers as compared with any server software. At the same time, this does not mean that the visitors will continue seeing the exact same content again and again, because any change on any of the web pages is reflected in the content that the Varnish platform keeps in its system memory.

Varnish in Cloud Hosting

If you host your Internet sites in a cloud hosting account with us, you will be able to activate Varnish with several clicks through your hosting Control Panel. The data caching platform comes as an optional upgrade with all our hosting plans and you can choose how many sites will use it and the total amount of system memory that will be used for the cached content. The two features that can be upgraded in the Upgrades section of the Control Panel are the amount of system memory and the number of instances and they are not tied directly to each other, so you can choose if you need lots of memory for one large-size site or less memory for several smaller ones. You can unlock the full potential of the Varnish platform if the websites use a dedicated IP. Using the hosting Control Panel, you can easily start/restart/remove an instance, delete the cached contents individually for each site that employs Varnish or check a detailed system log file.

Varnish in Semi-dedicated Servers

Varnish is a feature, which is offered as standard with all semi-dedicated servers offered by our company and you can use it for workload balancing purposes. It’s available in your Hepsia Control Panel. The Varnish data caching platform comes with 64 MB of system memory for cached data storing purposes and you can employ it with any Internet site that you host in the account. If you need more than that, you can increase the memory allowance. The memory itself is available in increments of 32 MB in the Upgrades section of the Control Panel. The very same Upgrades section will allow you to create more instances too, in case you want to use the Varnish caching platform with multiple Internet sites. The two things can be ordered separately – you can cache the content of one single traffic-heavy Internet site or use several sites with the default memory allocation. You can get the most out of the Varnish platform in case you’ve got a dedicated IP and you can get one with your semi-dedicated server plan as well. The Hepsia Control Panel will give you full control over the caching platform and, with no more than a click, you will be able to clear the cached files, to view a system log or to reboot an instance.

Varnish in VPS Servers

The Varnish caching platform is included by default with each of the VPS service offered by us given that the virtual server is ordered with the Hepsia Control Panel, so you can enhance the performance of your websites with just a couple of mouse clicks. The more powerful the package, the more memory will be available to Varnish, but even with a lower-end plan, the platform will be able to utilize several hundred megabytes, so even if you manage a number of websites, you will notice a substantial decrease in the server load and a tremendously better page load speed. The Varnish platform will need to work for a little while as the users browse the website and once the website content has been cached, you will notice the result. One of the pros of employing Varnish is that a less powerful and less expensive VPS package will do the very same job as a more high-priced one without the caching platform, so not only will your Internet sites perform much better, but you’ll also spare a certain amount of money.

Varnish in Dedicated Servers

If you order a dedicated server with the Hepsia Control Panel, you’ll acquire the Varnish platform at no additional charge and you will exert total control over it via an exceptionally intuitive GUI – you will be able to start, to delete or to reboot an instance, to check a detailed log, to delete the cached data associated with any website and much, much more. The Varnish caching platform will have several gigabytes of virtual memory at its disposal, so even if you have large-size sites with numerous visitors, you’ll notice the significantly faster website load speeds and the lowered load on your dedicated server. This will become a fact soon after you start using the Varnish platform, since it will require a certain amount of time to cache the content that people request. You can get the most out of the platform’s capability in case the sites that are using it use also a dedicated IP address, but due to the fact that your dedicated server includes a few IPs by default, you won’t need to pay anything on top of your monthly fee for the server itself.
